IBM Support

Enabling the creation of short file name aliases when installing IBM Cognos Planning

Troubleshooting

Problem

IBM Cognos Planning uses licensed third party components that require the use of 8dot3 compatible file names. Windows 2012 Server, and other recent versions of Windows, have 8dot3 file name creation disabled by default for new volumes.

Symptom

The system may hang during the following Contributor Administration actions:
· Creation of a new Planning Application
· Deployment Import of an Application
· Go To Production process
Or in the web client, when a user attempts to open an eList item.
