Empty SQL Server DSN list when trying to create a RequisiteWeb project under 64-bits Windows

Troubleshooting

Problem

When you make a new IBM Rational RequisiteWeb project and you select SQL Server as the database type, the DSN list is empty.

Symptom

  • You added the DSNs successfully and tested with the Windows ODBC Data Source Administrator as a system DSN.
  • You run a 64-bit Windows operating system.
  • You created the SQL Server DSNs with the default DSN Manager.

Cause

By default the 64-bit operating system starts the 64-bit Data Source Administration tool. IBM Rational RequisiteWeb does not accept the 64-bit System DSN, because it is a 32-bit application.

Resolving The Problem

Add the DSN to the 32-bit DSN configuration tool. You can find this tool in the following location.

C:\WINDOWS\syswow64\odbcad32.exe

You will now be able to see the DSNs in the IBM Rational RequisiteWeb client.

For more information see the following article.

The 32-bit version of the ODBC Administrator tool and the 64-bit version of the ODBC Administrator tool display both the 32-bit user DSNs and the 64-bit user DSNs in a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system
