Question & Answer
Question
Message 'EDC8114I Address family not supported. (errno2=0x112B0000)' appears on the console or in an application log. Is this a problem or something that needs to be fixed?
Cause
The EDC8114I message is issued by the Language Environment (LE) Run-Time to indicate that an application has attempted to open a socket for a socket family not supported on the system. This most often occurs when an application is capable of IPv6 communication, but the TCPIP stack has not been enabled for IPv6.
Answer
In most cases, this message can be ignored. The normal response for the application causing the warning is to retry the operation specifying IPv4. It should then continue to run in IPv4 mode without encountering any errors.
If the application does not operate correctly, then the warning may have been issued for some other reason. You should obtain traces specific to that application to determine the root of the problem.
