Problem
HMC Version 7 logs serviceable event E3550815 when the Manage Customer Information panel is accessed; however, the System Information panel phone number field is blank. Changes made to the phone number field are not saved. The Electronic Service Agent Setup Wizard must be used to fill in the field.
Symptom
Call home SRC E3550815 is generated.

Problem Description
A problem has been identified where the HMC generates and reports to IBM (calls home) Serviceable Event E3550815 because the phone number field in the System tab of the Manage Customer Information panel is empty. This field was not required in HMC levels prior to HMC 7.3.5; however, it is now a required field and thus the HMC will generate an error message if this panel is accessed and the field is empty. If the user attempts to edit the phone number field from the Manage Customer Information panel without the use of the Service Agent Wizard, the value for Phone number in the System tab will not be saved.
The E3550815 error may have more then one root cause. To verify the cause, click Service Management in the navigation area, click Electronic Service Agent Setup Wizard, then click the System tab. Check the phone number field. If it is empty (even if disabled/greyed out), this is the likely cause of the E3550815. Do not attempt to enter the phone number on this panel. See the Customer Impact and Recovery section below.

Customer Impact and Recovery
The Serviceable Event does not cause any harm to the system; however, it generates a call home event. A fix is planned for a future Version or service pack of HMC.
To circumvent the E3550815, use the Electronic Service Agent Setup Wizard to set the phone number field. In the Hardware Management Console navigation area, click Service Management, then click Electronic Service Agent Setup Wizard. Using the wizard, enter a phone number in the Administrator panel and either enter a valid phone number in the System panel or check the box that specifies the use of the Administrator information. Click Next through the remaining panels, then click Finish.
Note: Changes to the Phone number field made using the Manage Customer Information panel will not be saved. The wizard must be used to make the change.
This problem was fixed in Version 7.3.5 Service Pack 3 and the base of Version 7.7.1 and later. Version 7.7.6 through Version 7.7.9 may still report the failure, use the circumvention to avoid the SRC.
