Once the problem is encountered, you must reinstall Windows 2000.

Workaround
|
|---|
There are two (2) possible workarounds. Which one to use should be based whether the customer wishes to preserve the functionality of the ServerGuide system partition or not.
|
Workaround 1
|
|---|
After installing Windows 2000 with ServerGuide, format the system partition before upgrading disk 0 from basic to dynamic.
Additional Information for Workaround 1
The system partition is incompatible with Windows 2000 dynamic disk support.
This problem will occur with any release of ServerGuide that installs Windows 2000 and the system partition.
After installing Windows 2000 with ServerGuide, to upgrade the disk containing the system partition (disk 0) from a basic disk to a dynamic disk:
- Format the system partition (it has label NETFINITYSP)
- Upgrade the disk from basic to dynamic.
Note: After the system partition is formatted, it will no longer be bootable via ALT-F1 (if ALT-F1 is supported on your server).
After the disk has been upgraded to dynamic, the NETFINITYSP volume may be removed and the corresponding space assigned to a new volume if desired.

Workaround 2
|

After installing Windows 2000 with ServerGuide, install Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 before upgrading disk 0 from basic to dynamic.
Additional Information for Workaround 2
The system partition is incompatible with Windows 2000 dynamic disk support.
This problem will occur with any release of ServerGuide that installs Windows 2000 and the system partition.
After installing Windows 2000 with ServerGuide, to upgrade the disk containing the system partition (disk 0) from a basic disk to a dynamic disk:
- Install Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
- Upgrade the disk from basic to dynamic.
After the disk has been upgraded to dynamic, the NETFINITYSP volume will be removed. The system partition will continue be bootable via ALT-F1 (if ALT-F1 is supported on your server).
Note: In ServerGuide 6.0.3 and later versions, this information has also been included in the ServerGuide Windows 2000 information screen.
