On Dual-Core processor servers, when the Hyper-Thread function is turned off in the BIOS, only one core shows in the operating system.

Symptom

On Dual Core CPU servers, when the Hyper-Thread function is turned off in the BIOS, only one core shows in the operating system.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • xSeries 336, type 1879, any model
  • xSeries 336, type 8837, any model
  • xSeries 346, type 1880, any model
  • xSeries 346, type 8840, any model

Additional information

On the Intel Dual-Core processor, it is technically possible to do either of the following:

  1. Enable all cores which includes the primary, secondary, and both hyperthread cores.
  2. Enable only the primary core and disable the others. When hyperthreading is disabled, only the primary core is enabled.
