DSPDSTLOG and Date Ranges Used with the Log

Troubleshooting

Problem

DSPDSTLOG displays only information from the currently attached QSNADS journal receiver.

Resolving The Problem

The Display Distribution Log (DSPDSTLOG) command allows an administrator, or an end user, to see what SNADS activity has occurred on the system. The default values for the DSPDSTLOG command are shown below in Figure 1:

Figure 1
The defaults for the DSPDSTLOB command have the Beginning time and Ending time set to *AVAIL, the Beginning date and Ending date set to *Current, the Function type set to *All, the Entry type set to *ALLDST, and the User ID and Address set to *All.

There might be times when an administrator or end user would like to view information from an earlier date.
Using the Beginning time parameter, a specific date can be specified or the value *BEGIN can be used
to look at all information logged from the beginning of the ournal receiver.

Also, the *CURRENT option can be used to view the entries from the current date on the system.  The
limitation with this field is that the data is pulled only from the currently attached QSNADS journal receiver.
If the journal receiver  happens to reach the maximum threshold and detaches (and a new one is
automatically created and attached), the DSPDSTLOG command will not be able to extract information
from that newly-detached journal receiver.

A potential work-around is the creation of a new journal receiver (CRTJRNRCV).  If a new journal receiver
is created, the Journal receiver threshold (THRESHOLD) can be increased to a larger value.  In theory,
that larger value would allow a longer time frame for data to be kept, and therefore allow a longer
time period for DSPDSTLOG.  Refer to Figure 2:

Figure 2
In the CRTJRNRCV command, the the Journal receiver threshold is set to 10000000.

After the new journal receiver is created it must be attached to the QSNADS journal.
This can be done by using the command CHGJRN QSNADS.  Refer to Figure 3:

Figure 3
The CHGJRN command specifies Journal QSNADS in Library QUSRSYS,
