Symptom
After adding two (2) new Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard drives and creating a second IM RAID-1 array, the operating system is no longer found and there is no option to set the boot priority in the LSI SAS1064E controller Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) when pressing Ctrl+C.
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3250 M2, type 4190, any model
- System x3250 M2, type 4191, any model
- System x3250 M2, type 4194, any model
- System x3250 M3, type 4251, any model
- System x3250 M3, type 4252, any model
- System x3250 M3, type 4261, any model
- System x3250 M4, type 2583, any model
- System x3250, type 4364, any model
- System x3250, type 4365, any model
- System x3250, type 4366, any model
The system is configured with one or more of the following IBM Options:
- Paddle board with LSI 1064E SAS Controller, any FRU
This tip is not software specific..
Solution
This behavior is corrected in firmware version 1.41.01 for the 1064E controller.
The file is available by selecting the appropriate Product name, Product machine type, and operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:
Workaround
Users should move the original operating system boot partitioned drives from hard drive slots 0 and 1 to hard drive slots 2 and 3, then the operating system will boot properly.
Additional information
There is no option to set which IM array as the primary array in the LSI controller BIOS. With the new firmware, while in the LSI SAS1064E BIOS and after entering into the SAS Topology option, users will see a "Alt+B" option to make the desired IM array as Boot.
