Question
Does TCPIP's NSLOOKUP function support IPv6 addressing?
Answer
As indicated by the z/OS V1R13.0 Communications Server IPv6 Network and Application Design Guide, TSO NSLOOKUP does not support IPv6. This restriction is specified in Table 42 "Command-type applications not enabled for IPv6."
However, when NSLOOKUP is invoked from the z/OS UNIX shell, NSLOOKUP does support IPv6 addresses and record types, as pointed out in topic 6.3.2 "nslookup versions" in the z/OS V1R13.0 Communications Server IP System Administrator's Commands: "The only version of nslookup that supports IPv6 addresses and resource record types is nslookup that is invoked from the z/OS UNIX shell."
For more information, see Topic 2.5.7 "IPv6 name servers and the resolver" in the z/OS V1R13.0 Communications Server IP Configuration Guide.
