Question & Answer
This release of IBM® Cognos® Analysis for Microsoft Excel has the following new features: - Bulk upload of flex view data. - Additional TM1® Worksheet functions are available in Cognos Analysis for Microsoft Excel. These featuresd are described in this technote.
Bulk upload of flex view data
You can bulk upload flex view data to an IBM® Cognos® TM1® server. This upload is performed without data validation and can be significantly faster than using Commit Changed Values,
When you bulk upload flex view data, the data is assumed to be valid. This means, in particular:
1. The entire flex view has valid intersections (all the elements on all axes have valid metadata). There are no interspersed items, with the exception of blank rows or columns.
2. All data is expected to be of a valid type for each respective cell. For example, numbers in numeric cells, text in string-based cells, etc.
- Hold down the CTRL key and click Commit Changed Values .
If errors are found and the request fails, an Error Report dialog containing an error description and the cell reference for each error is displayed. You can then click each row of error information and the cursor will move to the related cell, allowing you to correct the error. You can click Create Error Report on the error dialog to create a JSON-formatted error report and open it in the default text editor.
By default, all valid intersections are committed before the Error Report dialog is displayed. You can modify this behavior by editing %localappdata%\Cognos\Office Connection\CognosOfficeReportingSettings.xml and changing the value of the BulkUploadAutoCommitValid setting to False. If you change the setting to False, the Error Report dialog is displayed before data is uploaded to the Cognos TM1 server. You can click Commit Valid Intersections to upload valid data to the server.
Use TM1 Worksheet functions to access TM1 data
You can now use additional TM1® Worksheet functions to leverage work done in TM1 tools and take advantage of Cognos Analysis for Microsoft Excel features.
The following TM1 Worksheet functions can now be used:
For instructions on using these functions, see the topics on worksheet functions in the IBM Cognos TM1 Reference Guide.
