Flashes (Alerts)
Abstract
This IBM Flash Alert is an important announcement concerning the release of a new Disk Qualification Package (DQP)
Content
IBM has released a new DQP (qual_devices_v3) for newly qualified drives to be used in IBM® storage systems. In order for your systems to recognize and utilize the newly qualified drives, the systems require both the latest qual_devices_v3 file in the DQP and Data ONTAP® 7.2.4 or later.
Systems running Data ONTAP version 7.2.1, 7.2.2, and 7.2.3 require qual_devices_v2. Newly qualified drives are no longer added to this file. All newly qualified drives will only be added to qual_devices_v3, which is only used by Data ONTAP version 7.2.4 or later.
Adding any of the newly qualified drives to your IBM storage system might cause a serious storage disruption if the Data ONTAP and qual_devices_v3 file requirements are not met.
Recommendations
IBM recommends that you download the latest qual_devices_v3 file (noted by date code 20091030) from the IBM web site and install the file on your storage systems.
To determine the version of DQP file on your storage system, enter the following command:
rdfile /etc/qual_devices_v3
The header of the file contains a date code. If your date code is less than 20091030, download and install the latest version of the Disk Qualification Package.
Customers who are running Data ONTAP 7.2.3 or earlier:
You must upgrade Data ONTAP immediately. As of this writing, the latest 7.2-based Data ONTAP version is 7.2.7 and the latest 7.3-based Data ONTAP version is 7.3.3.
As a best practice, you should always update IBM products with the latest version of firmware and software to provide the best reliability, availability, and serviceability.
