Disabled User Profiles

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document explains how profile USER1 was disabled.

Resolving The Problem

A profile can be disabled through the Change User Profile (CHGUSRPRF) command or it can be disabled by the system for security violations.

If a profile is disabled for security reasons, there will be a MSGCPF1393 message sent to QSYSOPR (or QSYSMSG, if that has been created).

Message CPF1393 gives the profile disabled, the device used, and the subsystem being accessed.  If the profile is disabled due to interactive SIGNON attempts or due to communications attempts, the subsystem and the device name give an indication as to how the profile was disabled.

If there is no device listed and the subsystem is QSYSWRK, QUSRWRK, or QSERVER the profile was disabled by a server job.  Server jobs swap profiles.  If the PC sends in wrong information, the profile can be disabled.  Because PCs may automatically retry a connection, it is very easy for a server to disable a profile.

To find out what disabled the profile, look at the job sending the message.  Use F1 for help and F9 for additional information on the message in QSYSOPR to see which job sent the message.  The job name indicates which server or subsystem caused the profile to be disabled.
