Disable creation of core dump files in Cognos BI

Troubleshooting


Problem

This document describes a possible solution to the issue where large core dump files are created in the bin64 folder of the Cognos directory. This solution only works if Dynamic Query Mode (DQM) is not being used. If DQM is being used, reports may fail to run.

NOTE: This document does not solve all issues related to core dump files being created as there are 3 main services that create core dump files.

  1. Main Cognos service
  2. BIBus service
  3. Query service

 

This solution tackles one of the possible sources of the unwanted core dump files being created which is the Query service.

Symptom

  1. The following setting has already been applied: 
    <env_var name="CCL_HWE_ABORT" value="0"/>
    to the cclWinSEHConfig.xml file from the c10_location\configuration directory.
  2. The Cognos services have been restarted.
  3. Large (>1000 kb) core.dmp files are created in the bin64 folder.
