When both the Microsoft VSS System Provider and IBM Hardware VSS Provider are installed on the Tivoli Storage Flashcopy Manager server machine, how can you find which VSS provider was used for the backup?
Cause
To determine the VSS Provider that is associated to a FlashCopy backup, compare the Provider ID field for the VSS backup and the VSS providers that are installed on the system.
Answer
Run the DISKSHADOW command: list shadows all

Then compare the Provider ID to the Providers that are installed on the system by running the VSSADMIN LIST PROVIDERS command. The output may be similar to:
This shows that the VSS backups were created with the IBM XIV Hardware Provider.
