When the FlashCopy Manager or Data Protection for Exchange performs a VSS backup, where is the flashcopy of the data located?
Answer
In most cases the pointers/data that is flashed will be placed on the same drive as where the original/production database exists. However, this is configurable and can be verified with the command:
vssadmin list shadowstorage
As shown in the following example, the flashcopy (shadow copy) backups are being stored on the C: drive which is the same drive that is being flashed:
