Resolving The Problem
It is not always possible to determine to which partition a piece of hardware is assigned by looking at the physical system. A CD unit may physically reside in one tower but is logically assigned to another partition. When looking for resources allocated to a partition, you need to remember that the primary partition can see what resources are allocated to all partitions. However, a secondary partition can only see the resources allocated to itself.
From a command line on the primary partition, type STRSST and press the Enter key. Select the following menu items:
You will see a screen similar to the one displayed below. If you are interested in only a particular partition, the display can be filtered by changing the System partition(s) to display to the partition ID of the partition that you wish to display. The display can also be filtered to display only certain types of hardware. For example, setting Level of detail to display to *IOP will display only the system buses and IOPs allocated to the selected partition(s).
Notes:
Certain IOPs provide special functions for a logical partition. These IOPs will have one or more of the following symbols between the description and the type-model information.
From a command line on the primary partition, type STRSST and press the Enter key. Select the following menu items:

| 2 | Select option 5, Work with System Partitions. |
| 3 | Select option 1, Display Partition Information. |
| 4 | Select option 3, Display Allocated Resources. |

| o | At V4R5 and beyond, the bus number is displayed to the right of the system bus label. |
| o | If we were to bring up the Display Allocated I/O Resources screen from a secondary partition, the option for System partition(s) to display would not be available. |
