IBM InfoSphere Optim Solutions Supported Data Sources

Click on the DBMS name in the tabs below for it's detailed system requirements page

The Optim solutions support data sources heterogeneously. That is, a solution can generally process a business object that consists of data from one or more data sources or extract data from one data source or DBMS and insert it in another.

To prevent inadvertent deletion or alteration of data from system tables for your relational database management system, your Optim solution cannot be used in INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE processing against these tables.

Note that Optim does not currently support Temporal Tables in any data source.

Optim Directory Support

For Optim 11.3 test data management solutions that use Optim Designer and Optim Manager, the Optim directory and the IBM InfoSphere Optim Connection Manager database must be Unicode and are supported on the following database management systems only. For the next major version, all Optim solutions support the Optim directory and the InfoSphere Optim Connection Manager database on these database management systems only. The Optim directory must use a different schema from the schema that is used by the InfoSphere Optim Connection Manager database.

In DB2, certain Optim directory tables require an 8K tablespace. The default size for DB2 is 4K. Ensure that the directory owner has authorization to an 8K tablespace or that a specific 8K tablespace is specified when installing or upgrading.

Setup considerations for Teradata

The following Teradata client components must be installed on the Optim server and on the Optim workstation:

  • Shared ICU Libraries
  • Teradata GSS
  • CLIv2 interface
  • Teradata Pre-processor (PP2)

Optim supports the following minimum version levels of the Teradata Server software:

  • V2.6.2
  • V12.0.2.38
  • V12.0.3.1
  • V13.0.0.18
  • V13.0.1.1
  • V13.10.0.1

Teradata on AIX

To execute an Optim solution against a supported version of Teradata on AIX, a minimum client level of TTU version 13 must be installed on the Optim server. In addition, the following patch level is required:

  • For TTU 13.10:
    • cliv21310 13.10.00.11 or above
    • TPT version 13.10 with papida00 patch 13.10.00.06 or above
  • For TTU 14.0:
    • TPT version 14 with tptbase patch 14.00.00.04 or above

Teradata on HP-UX, RHEL, or Solaris

To execute an Optim solution against a supported version of Teradata on HP-UX (Optim does not support Teradata on the HP-Itanium platform), RHEL, or Solaris, a minimum client level of TTU version 13 must be installed on the Optim server. In addition, the following patch level is required for specific client components:

  • TTU version 13.0 client, with:
    CLIv2 patch 13.0.0.11 or above
  • TTU version 13.10 client, with:
    • CLIv2 patch 13.10.00.10 or above
    • TPT version 13.10 with papida00 patch 13.10.00.06 or above
  • TTU version 14.0 client, with:
TPT version 14 with tptbase patch 14.00.00.04 or above

Teradata on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x

Note that TTU 16.10 or 16.2 0 can be used with Teradata 15.10

Teradata on Windows

To execute an Optim solution against a supported version of Teradata on Windows, a minimum client level of TTU version 13 must be installed on the Optim server. In addition, the following patch level is required:

  • For TTU 13.0:
    • Teradata CLIv2 patch 13.0.0.11 or above
    • Teradata GSS Client nt-i386 13.0.1.2 or above
  • For TTU 13.10:
    • Teradata CLIv2 patch 13.10.00.08 or above
    • Teradata GSS Client nt-i386 13.10.04.01 or above
  • For TTU 14.0:
    • TPT version 14 with tptbase patch 14.00.00.04 or above

Teradata patches are available for download at http://www.teradata.com/support-and-downloads/.

Support levels

The support level for a version of a database is toleration or supported.

If a database is provided at a toleration level, the Optim solution can connect to the data source. The Optim solution also supports data types and features supported in previous releases of the solution but does not support all features of the data source.

If a data source is supported, the Optim solution also:

  • Supports processing of the most common data types for the data source
  • Might support or exploit other new features of the data source
In addition, for relational databases, the Optim solution supports extracting object definitions for the database as well as preserving and using (with the Optim create utility) extracted objects.

GNU TAR required for AIX and Solaris installation packages

The native TAR utilites that are included in IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris do not support the long file names that are used in the AIX and Solaris installation packages. Download the GNU TAR utility and use GNU TAR to extract files from the installation packages.

You can find the GNU tar utility for AIX and Solaris here: http://www.gnu.org/software/tar/
