Abstract
This document summarizes the hardware, platforms, and software supported by IBM® InfoSphere® Optim™ System Analyzer for SAP Applications and Business Process Analyzer 1.2.
Content
Optim System Analyzer, Version 1.2.2
Server Hardware Requirements (System Analyzer 1.2.2)
The following are minimum requirements. Actual hardware capacity for acceptable performance depends on many factors, including but not limited to data volume, service level agreement, and access to nonrelational data, as well as the number of open dialogs, number of database tables that are active, and memory demands from other active applications and services.
| 64-bit Platforms | |
|---|---|
|
Processor |
Dual-core 2 GHz |
|
Memory |
8 GB (can be scaled up) |
Drive Space |
100 GB |
|
Operating System |
Windows 2008 R2 Server, Service Pack 1 Windows 2012 Server |
NOTE: Optim System Analyzer is not supported on Windows server machines that are configured as domain controllers.
The Optim System Analyzer server machine must have sufficient disk space to store the following:
- The installed software
- The workspace databases that you plan to create
- Any generated reports
- Any external data sources that are stored locally on the Optim System Analyzer server
- Any Java files that you plan to compare
The following table lists the approximate disk space requirements for each Optim System Analyzer component.
| Component | Disk Space |
|---|---|
|
Workspace Databases |
In general, this space requirement depends upon the number of objects that are compared or analyzed. A workspace database that compares 500 transactions (and their component objects) can occupy up to 300MB. |
|
Reports |
Depends upon the number of objects in each report, and the amount of report detail generated for each object. |
External Data Sources |
Depends upon the number of records in each External Data Source. |
|
Java Files |
Depends upon the size of the Java files that are uploaded. |
Client Hardware Requirements (System Analyzer 1.2.2)
The hardware and operating system requirements for Optim System Analyzer client machines are as follows:
|
Processor |
Dual-core 2 GHz |
|
Memory |
4 GB (32-bit platforms), 8 GB (64-bit platforms) |
|
Operating System |
Windows 8 (not ARM) Windows 7 Enterprise Windows 7 Professional Windows 7 Ultimate Windows Vista Windows XP Professional |
Server Software Requirements (System Analyzer 1.2.2)
The SAP components of the solution are provided as transports to be installed on the SAP systems used with Optim System Analyzer. The following software components are required on the Optim System Analyzer server machine:
- Microsoft Internet Information Server version 7.5 or 8.0, including the World Wide Web Services component. If you plan to use Optim System Analyzer to run workflows that are registered as Web Services, Internet Information Server 7.5 is required.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8.0, 9.0, or 10.0
- SAP RFC SDK (Unicode)
- Microsoft Access Database Engine
- Virtual Machine
Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7 is required to run Optim System Analyzer workflows that are registered as Web Services.
The use of IIS security tools such as URL Scan or the IIS Lockdown Tool might prevent Optim System Analyzer from working.
Virus protection software that prevents ActiveX controls from being downloaded or registered prevents Optim System Analyzer from working.
Run the ‘Pre-install Check’ option from the Optim System Analyzer installation program for details on the exact version requirements for each software component. The version of the SAP RFC SDK is checked by the Optim System Analyzer Configuration Wizard.
Viewing Reports
Each Optim System Analyzer client machine must have the following Internet Explorer security settings specified for the ‘Internet’ and ‘Local Intranet’ zones. These settings allow generated Access and CSV reports to be opened from the Optim System Analyzer user interface. They can be found in the downloads section of the Internet Explorer ‘Security Settings’ dialog.

Windows 2008 Server with IE Enhanced Security Configuration
If you plan to run Optim System Analyzer locally on a Windows 2008 Server machine with IE Enhanced Security Configuration enabled, the Internet Explorer zone in which Optim System Analyzer is running must have at least the following security settings:
ActiveX Controls and plug-ins
| Setting | Value |

Client Software Requirements (System Analyzer 1.2.2)
A 32-bit Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0, 9.0, or 10.0 is required on each Optim System Analyzer client machine. When a client machine first connects to Optim System Analyzer, the following must be true to allow the Optim System Analyzer client controls to be installed:
- The client’s Internet Explorer security settings must allow the download of Active X controls.
- The user logged into the client must have local Administrator rights on the client machine.
Additionally, Internet Explorer must be configured to allow pop-up windows to be displayed by the Optim System Analyzer application.
Virus protection software that prevents ActiveX controls from being downloaded or registered prevents Optim System Analyzer from working.
Microsoft Access 2003, 2007 or 2010 is required on each client machine to open the reports generated by a number of the template packages included with Optim System Analyzer.
Optim System Analyzer/Business Process Analyzer, Version 1.2.1
NOTE: Optim Business Process Analyzer 1.2.1 can be implemented with Optim System Analyzer 1.2.1 or 1.2.2.
Server Hardware Requirements (System Analyzer/Business Process Analyzer 1.2.1)
The following are minimum requirements. Actual hardware capacity for acceptable performance depends on many factors, including but not limited to data volume, service level agreement, and access to non relational data, as well as the number of open dialogs, number of database tables that are active, and memory demands from other active applications and services.
