Description of Advanced Management Module

Question & Answer

Question

What is an AMM?

Answer

AMM stands for Advanced Management Module (AMM). The AMM provides system management functions and KVM multiplexing for the S-Blades. There are two AMMs in each S-Blade chassis.

The AMM controls the external keyboard, mouse, and video connections, for use by a local console, and a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet remote management connection. It also controls power to the S-Blades and switch modules, as well as the cooling system and media tray.

The AMM is a hot swap part so you can pull the terracotta handle out while the server is running.

Note: If you pull out the AMM on a server that is not running you will not be able to turn it on. If you pull the AMM out of a server that isrunning, you will be able to turn it off.

For information about retrieving log files from the AMM, refer to the related document below.
