On Solaris systems running the UNIX OS agent version 6.30 FP2 or 6.30 FP3, if the eeprom command fails in resolving the nvramrc property and the sneep tool is not present, defunct processes can be generated having the "kuxagent" PID as the parent process ID (PPID).

Defunct processes do not consume system resources other than the available PIDs, but if gathering "Process" attribute group metrics historically, the size of the short term historical data file can grow larger than expected, as the number of defunct processes increases with each attempted data collection of the Machine Information group.
This can eventually lead to an out of space condition or to a state where no new processes can be started on the system.

The following UNIX OS agent versions are impacted, only on Solaris:

• 6.30 FP2 IF3, IF4, IF5 and IF6 (6.3.0.2-TIV-ITM_UNIX-IF0003/4/5/6)
• 6.30 FP3 (6.3.0-TIV-ITM-FP0003)

Define the nvramrc property using the command eeprom nvramrc=<machine serial number>, or install the Oracle Serial Number in EEPROM (sneep) tool from the Oracle web site, in order to avoid this issue

apply APAR IV62522 to solve it. APAR IV62522 is included in 6.30 FP4 and it comes with the following Interim Fixes:

• 6.30 FP2 IF7 (6.3.0.2-TIV-ITM_UNIX-IF0007)

• 6.30 FP3 IF2 (6.3.0.3-TIV-ITM_UNIX-IF0002)
