Defining a new 2032 switch

Question & Answer

Question

We are wondering if we can define several new 2032 switches within an IODF which will be loaded via PORs. The problem or question stems from the fact that we have no connections to define under these switches as of yet. This results in the following message at IODF validation time (HCD 2;12): _ E CBDG065I The switch control unit 02C8 of switch C8 has no channel # path attached via the switch. It does appear that the IODF validation does fail - IODF is still a WORK IODF as opposed to a VALIDATED IODF. I want to verify If we were to activate this IODF, it should not cause any issues (at least related to these newly defined switches) since there is no connectivity. Would this be a true statement?

Answer

Not sure why you would need this if there are no real links but you most certainly can pre-define switches in the IODF but with NO control units.
HCD will pass the check all right and a new prod IODF will be built.

So, to fix the issue, just remove control unit definitions for not connected switches.

In fact, with no switch control units, the I/O configuration in the IOCP format (which is further translated into hardware related objects) does not hold any information on switches, defined in the IODF.
So, it is absolutely safe to activate the configuration, build a new IOCDS, do POR etc.
