Define an Item's Units of Measure

About this task

You can define a unitof measure (UOM) that can be used when defining unique identifierfor an item. For an item you can provide an item's weight anddimensions for shipping and storage purposes. You can specify thedimensions such as the length width and height of an item alongwith the weight of the item. The volume value and the volume UOM arederived from the value and UOM you have entered for length widthand height.

You can define an item's unitof measure from the Item UOMs screen.

To definean item's units of measure:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to theItem UOMs screen. To navigate to the Item UOMs screen perform thefollowing steps:
    1. Log in to Sterling Business Center as an ItemAdministrator.
    2. From the Products home pageclick Find Item in the Catalog panel.
    3. In the Item Search screen enter the search criteriaand then click Search to view a list of allthe available items. Alternatively use either the Basic Search orthe Advanced Search option to narrow down the list of itemsdisplayed.
    4. In the Items panel that is displayedclick the Item ID hyperlink. Alternatively double-click therow containing the Item ID.
    5. In the Related Tasks panel click ManageUOMs.

      The Item UOMs screen is displayed.

  2. In the Dimensions panelperform the following steps:
    1. In the Length text box enterthe item's numerical length and select its unit of measure (forexample inches) from the Length UOM drop-down list.
    2. In the Weight text box enterthe item's numerical weight and select its unit of measure (forexample pounds.) from the Weight UOM drop-down list.
    3. In the Width text box Enter theitem's numerical width and select its unit of measure (for exampleinches) from the Width UOM drop-down list.
    4. In the Height text box Enterthe item's numerical height and select its unit of measure (forexample inches) from the Height UOM drop-down list.
  3. Click Save.
    Note: The item's numerical Volume and VolumeUOM are auto-populated.

    The item'sunit of measure is defined.
