Problem

Provide instructions for problem determination with Operational Assistant Backup (go BACKUP menu)

Resolving The Problem

Finding information about the backup failure
1. Joblog
a. From WRKJOBSCDE, take option 8 - Work with last submission on the most current backup –
Example: Here are 2 entries for Sunday’s backup
QEZBKMGSUN - Message sent before backup
QEZBKTMSUN - Backup job
b. If no joblog is found, try WRKOUTQ QEZDEBUG, press F11 to view by date/time & job name.
c. To create a joblog for the next backup, issue:
CHGJOBD JOBD(*LIBL/QEZBACKUP) LOG(4 00 *SECLVL) LOGCLPGM(*YES)
d. Additional places to check for errors:
1. QSYSOPR message queue
2. History log


Backup requested wrong tape volume
1. Issue: go Backup
=> option 1 – Run Backup
=> option 1, 2 or 3 to select failing backup
=> Note the following:
Tape set to use . . . . . . . . . . . . : DAYA
Load tape volume . . . . . . . . . . . : DAYA01

Press F12 to return to the Go Backup Menu

2. Take option 10. Set up backup
=> select option 1, 2 or 3 to select failing backup
=> Note the following :
Tape sets to rotate . . . . . . . . . . DAYA <=
DAYB
DAYC

The tape names are in an array. Locate the volume that was
requested & replace it with the correct volume name.
Example: Tape volume DAY should have been requested instead of DAYA
Tape sets to rotate . . . . . . . . . . DAYA <=
DAYB
DAYC
Change to:
Tape sets to rotate . . . . . . . . . . DAYB <=
DAYC
DAYA
Run Backup will now request tape volume DAYB
