DCOM Configuration for Gentran:Server for Microsoft Windows

Troubleshooting


Problem

Below is a list of all the documented scenarios and associated errors that could be generated when the DCOM Configuration is not correctly configured for Gentran:Server for Microsoft Windows. If one or more of the issues or errors listed below are being experienced or generated on a Gentran:Server for Microsoft Windows machine, see the Resolution section at the bottom.

Symptom

When attempting to start the Gentran:Server Audit Notification service, the following errors are generated within the Windows Event Viewer's Application Log or is generated as a pop-up message:

  • 2140, Internal Windows error
  • Could not start the GENTRAN Audit Notification service on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
  • Mail subsystem not initialized successfully during server startup

When attempting to stop the Gentran:Server Audit Notification service, the following error is generated within the Windows Event Viewer's Application Log or is generated as a pop-up message:
  • Could not stop the GENTRAN Audit Notification service on local computer. Error 1067: the process terminated unexpectedly

When attempting to start the Gentran:Server Mailbox Service, the following error is generated as a pop-up message:
  • Could not start the Gentran:Server Mailbox service on the Local Computer. This could be an internal Windows error or an internal service error.

When attempting to start the Gentran:Server Mailbox Service, the Mailbox service fails to start (no errors are generated).

When attempting to stop the Gentran:Server Mailbox Service the following pop-up errors are generated as a pop-up message:

  • Mercury.EXE - Application Error: The instruction at "0x77ab1a1e" referenced memory at "0x0014512c". The memory could not be "written"
  • Mercury.EXE - Application Error: The instruction at "0x77a39360" referenced memory at "0x0014522c". The memory could not be "written"
  • Mercury.EXE - Application Error: The instruction at "0x77a69360" referenced memory at "0x0014510c". The memory could not be "written"

When attempting to open the Gentran:Server Audit Log from a client machine, the following errors are generated as a pop-up message:
  • 0x8000401A Unable to create COM server object
  • 0x80080005, Unable to create Audit Log COM server
  • Unable to create database connection string
  • 0x80070005 Access Denied

When attempting to send an E-mail Notification or a test E-mail Notification, the following errors are generated within the Gentran:Server Audit Log:
  • 0x80004005, Unspecified error
  • Error generating notification
  • ANServer returned the following error: 0x80040119 when sending a message from Gentran
  • ANServer returned the following error: 0x80040119 when sending test message from Gentran

When attempting to initiate translation, the following errors are generated within the Gentran:Server Audit Log or are generated as a pop-up message:
  • Initialization of GNTXENG.EXE failed with errors: 0x80004005 and 0x8000401a
  • Initialization of GNTXENG.EXE failed with errors: 0x80004005 and 0x80070005
  • GNTXEN~1.EXE - Application Error : The instruction at "0x77fcb9ae" referenced memory at "0x0404311b". The memory could not be "written"

When attempting to initiate translation inbound data via an ODBC map, the following errors are generated within the Gentran:Server Audit Log:
  • Translation using GNTXENG.EXE failed with error 80040702 and 80040407.
  • Database Error: Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
  • ODBC: MFC database exception in Program/RETCODE: Translation/-1State:37000,Native:18452,Origin:[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
  • ODBC: MFC database exception encountered in Translation

When attempting to import data using the - TRANSLATE function of SAPINT.EXE (this applies only to system using the Gentran:Server SAP Extension), no data is imported and the following error is generated in the SAPINT.LOG:
  • Unable to get an event ID

When attempting to log into or open the Gentran:Server user interface (EDIMGR), the following errors are generated within the Gentran:Server Audit Log, Windows Event Viewer's Application Log, or are generated as a pop-up message:
  • DCOM got error 'General access denied error' from the computer %%%% when attempting to activate the server
  • Could Not Connect To Audit Server
  • RPC Server is Unavailable
  • Error returned by ANServer: 0x800706BA
  • The description for Event ID (xxx) in Source (GENTRANAudit) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Unable to create EventIDServer object from ANServer. Error returned by ANServer: 0x800706BA The RPC server is unavailable

When attempting to open the Gentran:Server Notification Log, the Notification Log does not open (no errors are generated).

When attempting to open the Gentran:Server Process Control, the follow errors are generated in the Gentran:Server Audit Log, Windows Event Viewer's Application Log, or is generated as a pop-up message:

  • PROCCNTL.EXE has generated errors and will be closed.
  • Unable to create AuditLogger object from ANServer. Error returned by ANServer: 0x80070005 Access is denied.
  • Unable to create EventIDServer object from ANServer. Error returned by ANServer: 0x80070005 Access is denied.

Process Control Events start (are kicked off) but the commands within the sessions are not executed and the following error is generated within the Windows Event Viewer's System Log:

<path and file name>, Access is denied

The following errors are generated in the Gentran:Server Audit Log:

  • Failed to invoke Ack Reconciliation with error 80004003
  • Failed to invoke Ack Generation with error 80004003

At regular intervals that coincide with the interval specified for the Acknowledgement Generation or Reconciliation process (located on the System tab within Gentran:Server Configuration), the following errors are generated within the Gentran:Server Audit Log:
  • The server {AD448CF6-0AF7-4A12-8284-F06F89CBA17E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
  • Ackser~1.exe - Application error: The instruction at "0x76e73b5e" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory could not be read.
  • OleMainThreadWndName:Ackser~1.exe - Application error (0x76e73b4a)

A large number of Ackserver.exe entries located within the Windows Task Manager (no errors are generated).


Error Message
Below is a list of all the documented errors that could be generated when the DCOM Configuration is not correctly configured for Gentran:Server for Windows. If one or more of the errors listed below are being experienced on a Gentran:Server for Windows machine then see the Resolution section at the bottom.

  • ANServer returned the following error: 0x80040119 when sending test message from Gentran
  • Error returned by ANServer: 0x800706BA
  • The server {AD448CF6-0AF7-4A12-8284-F06F89CBA17E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

The following information is part of the event: Unable to create EventIDServer object from ANServer. Error returned by ANServer: 0x800706BA The RPC server is unavailable
