Db2stop yields SQL1042C and 'The service cannot accept control messages at this time' error on Windows in DB2 9.*

Troubleshooting


Problem

In a Windows environment, if a db2stop is issued shortly after a previous db2start request was made. When the db2stop is issued, the following error is received: SQL1042C An unexpected system error occurred.

Symptom

In addition to the SQL1042C error, the following error message may be returned to the front end:

DB2-0 : The service cannot accept control messages at this time.

where DB2-0 is the name of the DB2 service. Messages may be recorded in the db2diag.log, similar to the ones below:
