DB2 snapshot fails due to a corrupted DEVICE_CLASS name

Troubleshooting

Problem

The DB2 snapshot backup fails with messages indicating that either the DEVICE_CLASS does not exist in the profile (FMM8602E), or that an invalid option was specified after the DEVICE_CLASS name (FMM8305E).

Symptom

The symptoms vary.

The IBM Spectrum Protect Snapshot and Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager logs and traces may show messages like:

DB  23:00:33 FMM8601E The following device class sections are missing
 in the profile:
FMM8602E The parameter DEVICE_CLASS is referring to device class section
'DEVICE_CLASS:MYDEVCL^HX^B.' which does not exist in the profile.

.... or do not show any messages at all related to the failed backup attempt.

The db2diag log files will report messages related to the vendor library libacsdb2.X and messages like any of the following:
(Where X is a suffix specific to the platform AIX, HP-UX, Solaris, and Linux)

SQL2079N  An error was reported by the shared library "libacsdb2.X".

Cause

DB2 is passing a wrong parameter value for the DEVICE_CLASS name to the vendor library libacsdb2 which is part of the IBM Spectrum Protect Snapshot and Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager installation.

Resolving The Problem

There is no local fix or work-around.
