DB2 error "SQL0298N Bad container path SQLSTATE=428B2" is received when issuing a CREATE or ALTER TABLESPACE command.

Problem

SQL0298N Bad container path. SQLSTATE=428B2 is received when creating a tablespace or altering a tablespace.

Symptom

When adding a tablespace or altering a tablespace you may receive an error SQL0298N Bad container path.

Example:



When the path '/home/v95inst1/SAMPLE/v95inst1' is viewed it is determined that the path is valid and the file system permissions are correct, another possibility may be that the path is also in use by automatic storage.
