DataStage 11.3 client login fails with WinInet ErrorCode 0

Troubleshooting


Problem

DataStage client login to InfoSphere Information Server 11.3 fails with error: Failed to authenticate the current user against the selected Services Tier Unable to send HTTP request to Server [servername] on port [9080]. The WinInet ErrorCode is: [0]

Resolving The Problem

The server name and port fields in error message come from the DataStage login, i.e. servername:9080.

The error occurs when secure login is required but user attempts to login via non-SSL port 9080 or some port number other than the actual SSL port defined for WebSphere Application Server. Information Server 11.3 uses SSL connections for client login by default which is why client needs to login to the SSL port.

In the DataStage client login dialog, change port number to match your actual SSL port that was configured during WebSphere install, for example:
servername:9443 or servername:9445

If you are not sure what port WebSphere is setup for and WebSphere was installed during the InformationServer installation, then you can look in either the install log, or in the following file:
/opt/IBM/InformationServer/logs/responses/WASPorts.def
and find value for the following line:
WC_defaulthost_secure=9443

That is the secure login port number that should be used with DataStage client login. If it is 9443, then you can leave off the optional port in login dialog since we try 9443 by default. If it is another value such as 9445, then you just include it in login dialog in format: hostname:port
