Data Source Support Matrix of Federation Bundled in Db2 LUW V11.1

Detailed System Requirements

Abstract

This page lists the remote data sources that can be accessed using the built-in federation capability of Db2 LUW V11.1.

Content

When configuring a wrapper, a software layer (driver, SDK, or standalone program) is required that handles the vendor-specific communication with the data source. This layer may be built in to Federation, provided by IBM on the media with Db2 for Linux, Unix and Windows, or in some cases, provided by the vendor of the data source or other third party.

The first table shows which data sources require vendor-supplied software to complete the wrapper. This software must be acquired separately and installed on the same system as Federation for the data sources that you want to access.

The second table shows the availability of wrappers on 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. Certain wrappers are not available on all operating systems due to the availability of dependent data source software.

Table 1. Supported data sources, versions, and software requirements.

1 Db2 Connect is included as a supporting program for the purpose of accessing this data source.

2 Manual installation required for a) Db2 V11.1 GA and, b) Db2 V11.1 fixpack 1 (V11.1.1.1) on Linux PPCLEx64, c) Db2 V11.1 Mod Pack 3 and Fix Pack 3 (V11.1.3.3) and earlier on zLinux64. d) 64-bit Windows platform.

3 IBM branded ODBC driver package is included in Db2 LUW starting from V11.1 fixpack 1 (V11.1.1.1) on x86_64 Linux and AIX, V11.1 Mod Pack 2 and Fix Pack 2 (V11.1.2.2) on Linux PPCLEx64, and V11.1 Mod Pack 4 and Fix Pack 4 (V11.1.4.4) on zLinux64.  Customers use earlier versions need to download and install branded ODBC driver from this site . Customers on Windows servers are recommended to download and install ODBC driver manager from Microsoft and specified ODBC driver from data source vendors. Besides, GA users on AIX should download and install special build 35791 . GA users on X86_64 Linux should download and install special build 36035 .

4 Required MQ software is included as a supporting program.

5 Supported by Db2 V11.1 fixpack 1 (V11.1.1.1) or later.

6 Supported by Db2 V11.1 Mod Pack 2 and Fix Pack 2 (V11.1.2.2) or later.

7 This data source is a managed service that is always at its most current version.

8 Oracle MySQL Commercial and MySQL Enterprise servers are supported.

9 Supported by Db2 V11.1 Mod Pack 3 and Fix Pack 3 (V11.1.3.3) or later.

10 Required MariaDB ODBC driver version 2.0.15 is included in Db2 LUW starting from V11.1 fixpack 3 (V11.1.1.3) on x86_64 Linux.

11 Support both NET8 and ODBC wrappers to access this data source.

12  You are recommended to keep the server and client software at the same release number to ensure the maximum compatibility, and you also need to get the support from the data source provider to find the support matrix for different versions of the client and server software.

13 For ODBC wrapper, required IBM branded ODBC Oracle 8.0 driver is bundled in Db2 V11.1 Mod Pack 4 and Fix Pack 4 (V11.1.4.4) and later. Earlier users need to download and install latest ODBC driver from this site .

14 Supported by Db2 V11.1 Mod Pack 4 and Fix Pack 4 (V11.1.4.4) or later.

15 Required JDBC driver is included as a supporting program.

16 SAP HANA ODBC driver is required and users are recommended to download it from SAP.

17 Required libraries for connection and data parsing are included as a supporting program, no additional action required for customer.

Notes:

  • For other data sources not listed in Table 1, customer can also use federation server to access them and perform basic operations like querying remote data via ODBC or JDBC drivers, as long as the required ODBC driver comply with ODBC 3.0 standard or the JDBC driver comply with 6.0 standard. They are listed in Table 2 as "Generic ODBC" and "Generic JDBC". But they are not optimized so there might be some data types and functions not supported well and the performance is not expected to be as good as the optimized data sources. For example, IBM InfoSphere Classic Federation Server for z/OS (IICF in short) can be accessed with ODBC driver provided by IICF, in which case IICF can serve as a gateway to host data sources such as IMS and VSAM.
  • For all ODBC data sources, federation server needs an ODBC driver manager and specified ODBC drivers to access them.
  • For Linux and Unix platforms, customers are recommended to use IBM-branded DataDirect ODBC driver manager and specified ODBC drivers included in IBM branded ODBC driver package(see annotation #3 above for details). And for data sources not supported by DataDirect ODBC drivers, customers can also download and install specified ODBC drivers from data source vendors to work with IBM-branded DataDirect ODBC driver manager.
  • For Windows systems, IBM recommends using the ODBC driver manager from Microsoft and the ODBC driver from data source vendors.

Table 2. Availability of data source support on 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.

This table shows whether or not a data source support is available on a certain operating system. It does not imply anything about the availability of data server or client software on that platform. To access the data source, the wrapper must be available on the operating system where Federation Server runs.
