IBM Support

Data Source Support Matrix of Federation Bundled in Big SQL V5.0.2

Product Documentation

Abstract

This document shows all the supported data sources and platforms for Federation (a.k.a. Fluid Query) that is bundled in IBM Big SQL 5.0.2.

Content

When configuring a wrapper, a software layer (driver, SDK, or standalone program) is required to handle the vendor-specific communication with the data source. This layer can be built into Federation, provided with Big SQL on the media by IBM, or in some cases, provided by the vendor of the data source or another third party.

The following table shows which data sources require vendor-supplied software to complete the wrapper. This software must be acquired separately and installed on the same system as Federation for the data sources that you want to access.

Table 1. Supported data sources, versions, and software requirements.

  • Shared Common Components for Internationalization for Teradata (tdicu)
  • Teradata Generic Security Services (TeraGSS)
  • Teradata API library CLIv2
1 Db2 Connect is included as a supporting program for the purpose of accessing this data source.

2 IBM branded ODBC driver package is included in Big SQL starting from V5.0 on x86_64 Linux.

3 This data source is a managed service that is always at its most current version.
4 See configuring ODBC access and restrictions on the Configuring Data Source page.

Notes:
• Other data sources can also be accessed through ODBC or JDBC drivers, if the required ODBC driver complies with the ODBC 3.0 standard, or the JDBC driver complies with the 6.0 standard. For example, IBM InfoSphere Classic Federation Server for z/OS (IICF in short) can be accessed with the ODBC driver that is provided by IICF. In this case, IICF can serve as a gateway to host data sources such as IMS and VSAM.
• For some Linux and UNIX systems (details in Table 2), Big SQL includes an IBM-branded DataDirect ODBC driver manager and ODBC drivers for some ODBC data sources. However, other ODBC data sources, such as MariaDB, require the use of ODBC drivers that are provided by the vendors.

Tentative - while Big SQL technically supports many sources they have not all been tested.

Table 2. Availability of data source support on 64-bit operating systems.

This table shows whether or not a data source support is available on a certain operating system. It does not imply anything about the availability of data server or client software on that platform. To access the data source, the wrapper must be available on the operating system where Federation Server runs.
