Data Server Manager (DSM) and HTTPS to access DSM Server

Troubleshooting

Problem

How to configure Data Server Manager (DSM) to use HTTPS to access DSM Server?

Symptom

Data Server Manager is not working when using HTTPS

Resolving The Problem

You can use HTTPS with SSL security exclusively to connect to your Data Server Manager installation. To do so, enter the following values in your <installdirectory>/Config/dswebserver.properties file:

  • cookie.secureOnly=true
  • port=-1

To import an SSL certificate signed by a certificate authority, make sure that you follow the configuration steps described in this link:
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/forums/html/topic?id=93a8fa69-3439-48bd-a70f-9c7ddc254ae3&ps=25

Also, there is a known issue when using HTTPS to access DSM server. The java version that comes with DSM V2.1 or earlier, it is not up to date.
There is a need to upgrade the java version in DSM directory:
1. Download the latest java from the following link:
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/java8
2. Stop DSM server: from <DSM_install>\bin, execute stop.sh for Linux or stop.bat for Windows
3. Go to the <DSM_install> directory, and rename the directory java to java-OLD
4. Copy the new downloaded java directory into the <DSM_install> directory
5. Start DSM server: from <DSM_install>\bin, execute start.sh for Linux or start.bat for Windows)
