Abstract
Dashboarding made simple: create page pointing to an external URL
Body
Do you have a need to create a navigation link in DASH that points to a page displaying content from external url.
DASH has a handy widget called "Web Widget" to help you with this. You can create a page in DASH via GUI or via command line for the scenario. I was taking a DASH consumer through the process and realized that posting this simple technique could help other DASH consumers as well. Read below for more.
If you like to create page via GUI, you can start by clicking on the "+" icon on far right. This will take you to the page editor mode and will show you the palette with all the widgets. Search for web widget
Drag and drop web widget on the page and click on edit icon. See the settings below. The settings are self explanatory. Specify the exyernal URL in the HomePage setting
Next save the widgets settings. If you wish you can select the skin to be 'Transparent no Title' and let the widget 'Fill Work Page'. Save the page, logout and log back in and launch the new page
See the screenshot below
Now for the command line users, DASH has a command line that allows you to perform the above steps with a single command . You can run the command from DASH-HOME.
Look for the syntax below
Here is a sample usage
Here is the command to copy
C:\IBM\DASHHome\bin>consolecli CreateURLPage --username <username> --password <userPassword> --title <title> --url <url>
Next login to the Console and you will see the page created just like above.
One important point to note here is that the command 'CreateURLPage' is only applicable for the scenario where you want to create a page in DASH pointing to a single url
Happy Dashboarding :)
