C:\Windows\Temp\ folder (on application server) getting filled up with TMP files (after using fExpVal)

Troubleshooting


Problem

Controller application server's C:\Windows\TEMP folder is getting full of TMP****.TMP files. The number of these TMP files increases over time.

Symptom

User opens Excel spreadsheet which contains several cc.fGetVal formulae. User clicks 'Export Data'. User clicks 'Yes' to confirm that they want to export the data.

On the Controller application server, two files get created:


Both have random filenames, such as:

  • tmpDA82.tmp
  • F3A2F8xxxxxxx.tmp

After a while, the export finishes (there is a success message).

Looking in that folder (C:\Windows\TEMP) it is clear that one of the two files was successfully deleted, but the other (for example 'tmpDA82.tmp') remains.

Over time, this means that more and more similarly named files build up in that folder, for example:
