Q: How does CSP improve product quality?

A: Internal studies which look at the impact of moving components have shown that IBM should expect 2 failures for every 100 parts that get moved. CSP gets the part located in the correct slot eliminating the need to remove and reseed a system component. Performing this work in the customer location requires removing and reseeding the various adapters and disk units. The end result of performing this work in the customer location is lower quality and a higher incidence of system failures resulting in an outage.

Q: In the past, my Customer Engineer has moved the adapters and disks for me as a part of his installation work. Is there a reason why I should not continue having the CE do this work?

A: In the past, The IBM CE would perform this work and charge the work to IBM warranty. This action was supported as IBM did not have a process to build systems with adapter, disk, or enclosure in rack placed to meet customer needs and expectations. CSP provides this missing link. IBM now has established the capability to have systems built to meet the Customer's placement needs and specifications.

The IBM CE can continue to perform this work for you under a billable Hardware Relocation Contract. However, she can not charge warranty expense for this work. A contract with the customer or the IBM sales team must be in place if the CE is asked to perform hardware relocation work.

CSP Published Lead Time

Q: I heard that using CSP will add to the time it takes IBM to build and deliver system orders.

A: CSP does build system orders to meet the placement specifications defined in the sales configurator. The diagram created in eConfig shows a pictorial view of the system that will be delivered. IBM has modified and automated our build process to insure that this placement can occur with no impact to the published lead time. There will be no impact to the published lead time as long as you provide accurate and timely placement specifications to IBM.

The partition definition and preload by partition steps do add to the published lead times. The published lead time for these feature codes allows IBM to collect and verify the correct partitioning information before they perform this work. These steps are not fully automated today. This work will take about the same amount of time to perform in manufacturing as it would to perform in the customer's shop. Performing this work in IBM manufacturing can move the more tedious steps associated with data protection by partition from the customer's shop to IBM. IBM does expect to reduce this impact on lead time in the future.

Q: What is meant by 'accurate and timely placement specifications'?

A: Accurate implies that the placement and partition definition that is submitted to IBM matches the features on the order that is being built. Accuracy is ensured by submitting the same CFReport to IBM manufacturing that was used to create your order and by providing an updated CFReport if you make a change to your order.

Timely implies that this accurate CFReport is submitted to IBM within 12 hours of receiving your order confirmation from IBM's ordering systems. The order confirmation provides the necessary plant order number information needed to complete your submission through this website. This second submission of the CFReport is required for the Dual Submit process only.

For the Single Submit process, the CFReport is submitted as part of the order rather than using the Order Completion Form.

Q: I need to create positional orders to meet end of the quarter business results. I will not know the final order information until the last minute. Doesn't adding CSP to this order cause the order to miss an end of quarter shipment?

A: The CSP process will support the published lead time as long as an accurate and timely CFReport is submitted to IBM manufacturing. This process will work for you at the beginning of a quarter, in the middle of a quarter, and at the end of a quarter. A change can be made to the order as long as the correct placement information is provided. You should have the same expectations for delivery and quality at the end of a quarter as you would at any other time.

Ordering CSP

Q: What order information is required on the Order Completion Form?

A: List all IBM plant order numbers that indicate LPAR/CSP placement - 0453, 8453, 0456, 0469 or 8469 feature codes. This list will include server, supporting I/O subsystem and rack orders that are referenced by the attached eConfig generated _.cfr (CFReport) file. The Order Completion Form is required for the Dual Submit process only.

Q: Where can I go for help or if I have questions regarding the Order Completion Form?

A: There is a help button on all CSP webpages that allows you to submit questions. Your questions will be routed to the appropriate team, according to your Geo, for response.

Q: When do I submit the CFReport (_.cfr file)?

A: It is very important that you submit this via the Order Completion Form as soon as you receive your plant order numbers from IBM. The Order Completion Form is required for the Dual Submit process only.

For the Single Submit process, the CFReport is submitted as part of the order rather than using the Order Completion Form.

Q: Do all the orders we submit from now on require a CFReport ( _.cfr file)?

A: No. The only orders that require an eConfig generated CFReport (_.cfr file) are ones with the Customer Specified Placement FC's 0453, 8453 or 0456, and/or Customer Specified Rack Placement FC's 0469 or 8469.

Q: Does every system order require a unique CFReport (_.cfr file) entered into the Order Completion Form.

A: A single CFReport (_.cfr file) can be submitted for multiple systems as long as all of those systems are called out within the CFReport. For example, you can order four 9118-575's as one multi-system and submit one CFReport that contains the configuration for all of the 9118-575's. You will need to submit separate Order Completion Forms for each set of orders that are placed using more than one CFReport. Separate Order Completion Forms are also required when the same CFReport is used to submit multiple orders for the same system configuration.

Q: How will I know if you have received my Order Completion Form?

A: You will receive a system generated note indicating that the file has been received.

Q: What do you do with the CFReport (_.cfr file) that we attach to the Order Completion Form?

A: This file is used as a blueprint indicating to manufacturing how you want your system configured.

For the Single Submit process, the placement data is submitted as part of the order rather than using the Order Completion Form.

Changing a CSP/CSRP Order

Q: What do I need to do if changes are made to my order after it has been submitted?

A: Changes to existing orders will likely affect placement requirements. If your configuration changes from the _.cfr file that was originally created in eConfig, you will need to generate a new _.cfr file to attach to the Order Completion Formand resubmit to IBM for the Dual Submit process.

If you are using the Single Submit process, you will also need to generate a new _.cfr file and email it to your BPSO/CSO contact who will forward it to a plant order analyst.

Q: Can IBM change my CFReport (_.cfr file) if it needs corrections?

A: No. In order to ensure that the change is what you need, a new CFReport (_.cfr file) must be submitted. If you have been working with an order analyst, you can send it to that analyst in an email. As an alternative, you could submit the new _.cfr file attached to a new Order Completion Form if you are using the Dual Submit process.

If you are using the Single Submit process, you will also need to generate a new _.cfr file and email it to your BPSO/CSO contact who will forward it to a plant order analyst.

Q: What is a Partner World ID?

A: The Partner World ID is a method for authenticating that the requesting user is authorized to access the CSP ordering process documents.

Q: How do I obtain a Partner World ID?

A: Access the Business Partners "Join" PartnerWorld website and follow the instructions.

This registration website can also be reached via the Getting Started box and the Complete My Order box on this website.

Activation of this ID can take from one to four days. Please plan ahead and request this ID prior to submitting your first Customer Specified Placement request.

System Planning Tool (SPT) / LPAR Validation Tool (LVT)

Q: What is the System Planning Tool?

A: The IBM System Planning Tool (SPT) is the next generation of the IBM LPAR Validation Tool (LVT). It contains all of the function from the LVT and is integrated with the IBM Systems Workload Estimator (WLE). System plans generated by the SPT can be deployed on the system by the Hardware Management Console (HMC). The SPT is available to assist the user in system planning, design, validation and to provide a system validation report that reflects the user's system requirements while not exceeding system recommendations. The SPT is a PC based browser application designed to be run in a standalone environment.

Q: Can I still use the LVT?

A: The LVT is being discontinued. The LVT has been transformed into the System Planning Tool (SPT). The final update of the LVT occurred on 8/29/2006. All LVT users should complete the conversion of their .lvt files into SPT system plan (.sysplan) files. Effective 10/10/2006, the IBM Sales Configurator will no longer accept configuration files generated by the LVT.
