Creating shortcuts using Microsoft Windows 95 Start Menu icons - IBM IntelliStation

Resolving The Problem

This document applies to the Windows 95 operating system. This document does not assume nor imply that Windows 95 was preloaded on your machine.

1. Boot into Windows 95.
2. Click on Start , then Settings , select Taskbar .
3. Click on the tab at the top of the screen marked " Start Menu Programs ".
4. Click on the button marked " Advanced ".
5. Expand the "Programs" category in the left window to display the subdirectories by clicking on the " + " to the left of the Programs icon.
6. Locate the program you wish to create a shortcut for by clicking on the directory in which it is located. (Note: some programs may be in subdirectories. If this is the case, expand the directory you wish to enter by clicking on the "+" in front of the directories icon.)
7. Locate the program you want in the window on the right.
8. Place the mouse pointer on the icon of the prefered program and press the right mouse button.
9. Keeping the right mouse button pressed and drag the icon to a blank spot on the Windows 95 desktop.
10. Release the mouse button.
11. Left click on " Create shortcut here "
12. Close the "Exploring - Start Menu" window by clicking on the " X " in the upper right-hand corner.
13. Click on " OK " in the "Taskbar Properties" window.
