Creating Service Requests via Email Listener without having a Person record

Question & Answer

Question

Can you create tickets using the Email Listener functionality without having a Person record?

Answer

The E-mail Listeners application verifies that the senders of the incoming e-mail messages have person records. If the sender has a person record, the e-mail message is processed. If the sender does not have a person record, the e-mail message is ignored. That is true unless the property to indicate that the person needs to be validated in Email Listeners is set to 0. With the flag set to 0, any inbound email will create a new Service Request unless some other conditions are met that cause errors. The property that controls this is mxe.lsnr.validateperson (Flag to indicate person needs to be validated in Email Listener or not).

Use the following steps to set it up so that a Person record is not required:

1) Go To - System Configuration - Platform Configuration - System
Properties - filter for 'mxe.lsnr.validateperson' - out of the box, this
has a Current Value of 1.

2) Update the Global Value to 0. Save. Click on the checkbox beside
mxe.lsnr.validateperson - click on Live Refresh on the toolbar.

Test with an email address not associated with a Person record.
