Creating a RequisitePro Use Case Specification Document from a Rose model sub-unit Use Case within Rose

Troubleshooting

Problem

This technote describes the process for creating an IBM® Rational® RequisitePro® Use Case Specification Document from an IBM Rational Rose® model sub-unit Use Case within Rose.

Resolving The Problem

  1. Open RequisitePro and create a new RequisitePro project named reqpro1 using any template, and save reqpro1 using a full UNC path.
  2. Open Rose and create a Virtual Path Map named $PROJECT by clicking on File > Edit Path Map. In the Symbol field, enter PROJECT, and in the Actual Path field, enter a full UNC path to the folder containing the RequisitePro project reqpro1.
  3. Create a new Rose model named rose1, and save rose1 using a full UNC path.
  4. Associate Rose model rose1 to RequisitePro project reqpro1 by clicking on Tools > Rational RequisitePro > Associate Model to Project and browsing to the RequisitePro project’s reqpro1.rqs file using a full UNC path. Set the Default Document Type to Use Case Specification Document and the Default Requirement Type to be the Use Case Requirement and the Rose Virtual Path Map to $PROJECT.
  5. Save the Rose model rose1.
  6. In the Use Case View, create a Package named PKG1 by right-clicking on the Use Case View > New > Package. Create a sub-unit by controlling the Package by right-clicking on the Package PKG1 > Units > Control PKG1. Save the new sub-unit file PKG1.cat to your Rose model folder using a full UNC path.
  7. In the Package PKG1, create a Use Case named PKG1-UC1 by right-clicking on the Package PKG1 > New > Use Case.
  8. Create a new RequisitePro Use Case Specification Document to be associated with the Use Case PKG1-UC1 by right-clicking on the Use Case PKG1-UC1 > Use Case Document > New. Microsoft® Word opens, and a new RequisitePro Use Case Specification Document named PKG1-UC1.UCS is created. A shortcut to the Use Case Specification Document PKG1-UC1.UCS is created in Rose, under the Use Case PKG1-UC1.
  9. Save the RequisitePro Use Case Specification Document PKG1-UC1.UCS in Word by clicking on RequisitePro > Document > Save. Close the RequisitePro Use Case Specification Document PKG1-UC1.UCS by clicking on RequisitePro > Document > Close. Do not use the Word commands under the File toolbar for opening, saving, or closing RequisitePro documents. Instead, use the commands under the RequisitePro toolbar within Word.
  10. Save the Rose model rose1.
