Symptom
Creating or recreating HSP drives in ServeRAID / MSCS environment.

Affected configurations
The system is any of the following IBM Netfinity servers:

  • A Netfinity 7000-M10 server, type 8680, any model
  • A Netfinity 7000 server, type 8651, any model
  • A Netfinity 5500-M20 server, type 8662, any model
  • A Netfinity 5500-M10 server, type 8661, any model
  • A Netfinity 5500 server, type 8660, any model
  • A Netfinity 5000 server, type 8659, any model
  • A Netfinity 3500 server, type 8644, any model
The system is any of the following IBM PC Servers:
  • Aa PC Server 704, type 8650, any model
  • A PC Server 330, type 8640, any model
  • A PC Server 325, type 8639, any model
NOS affected:
  • Windows NT 4.0, any Service Pack level
  • MSCS 1.0
The system has the described symptom.

Solution
First, apply the following updates:
  • IBM ServeRAID BIOS and Firmware Diskette, Version 3.50, (Microsoft Certification Pending).
  • IBM ServeRAID Device Drivers, Version 3.50, (Microsoft Certification Pending).
  • IBM ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program Diskette, Version 3.50, (Microsoft Certification Pending).
  • IBM ServeRAID Cluster Solution for Windows NT Diskette, Version 3.50, (Microsoft Certification Pending).
  • IBM ServeRAID Command Line Program Diskette, Version 3.50, (Microsoft Certification Pending).
  • IBM ServeRAID Manager Windows Diskette, Version 3.50, (Microsoft Certification Pending).
  • IBM ServeRAID Option CD, Version 3.50, (Microsoft Certification Pending).

Next, create or recreate all HSP drive(s) using new Windows NT GUI ServeRAID Manager 3.50. This process will remove all stale data from the HSP drives and remove all RDY drives from all shared channels.

Additional information
Hot-Spare / Standby Hot-Spare (HSP / SHS) devices must be defined only on a Shared Channel, and HSP / SHS devices must be defined by the Adapter / Controller and NOT defined on Adapter Pairs.
