How To
Summary
The article describe how to create a threshold template that can be used to generate multiple alerts on graphs of the same type.
Objective
Use Cluster/Host CPU utilization graph as an example, show how to create alerts to get notified when the CPU utilization on any host breaches a defined threshold.
Steps
Here is how to create multiple threshold alerts using alert templates:
1. Create a new threshold template
Go to Console (Tab) -> Templates -> Threshold Templates.
Click "Add" on the top right.
Choose Data Template as "GRID - Cluster/Host CPU Utilization"
Choose Data Template as "GRID - Cluster/Host CPU Utilization"
Choose Data Source as "ut (System CPU Utilization for All Processors)
Set your high threshold to 0.9 (90%) and Minimum Trigger Duration to 5 mins. Leave low threshold blank if not applicable.

Set the "Re-Alert Cycle" time - how often to get re-alert notification if the breach persists.
Highlight the email accounts to be notified.
Press Save. You have created your Threshold Template.

2. Create multiple alerts using the alert template:
Go to Console (Tab) -> Management -> Graphs,
Filter the graphs by Template = GRID - Cluster/Host CPU Utilization
Select the graphs you want to create alerts for by checking the box on the right side. Selected ones are highlighted in green color.
In the pulldown menu for "Choose an action", select "Create Threshold from Template" and press "Go".

In the next page, choose your threshold template you created earlier and apply to these graphs.
i.e. select "Grid - Cluster/Host CPU Utilization [ut]" and press "Continue"

It says that the 3 thresholds were created -

3. Verify the thresholds
Now go to Console -> Management -> Thresholds to view your newly created thresholds.

If the Current value of the graph monitored data source exceeds the High threshold for a (Trigger) period of 5 minutes, then this threshold is in breach condition and is Triggered. An email will be sent (if configured) and the color of the threshold will turn Red. Once the data source value goes below the threshold, it will turn green.
In case you want to have different High Threshold values for different hosts, you can click on the corresponding threshold and uncheck the "Template Propagation Enabled" flag.
Now you can change your High Threshold value (no longer greyed out) and press Save.

The new value has taken effect.
