Create a Threshold Alert of CPU Utilization on a Particular Host

How To

Summary

This article describe how to create a threshold alert in RTM when the CPU utilization on a particular host goes above a certain value.

Objective

Use Cluster/Host CPU utilization graph as an example, show how to create alert to get notified when the CPU utilization on a particular host breaches a defined threshold.

Steps

Here is how we can create a threshold alert from a particular host CPU utilization graph:

Go to Console (Tab) -> Management -> Thresholds.
Click "Add" on the top right.
Choose Source as "Host"
Choose the host in the "Host" pulldown menu.
Choose Graph as "<hostname> GRID CPU Utilization"
Choose Data Source as "ut".

Press Create. This takes us to the configuration page where we can configure this alert.

Here we can see the current value of the data source.
Set a high threshold value, e.g. 0.8 (80%), and choose a Breach duration.

Set the "Re-Alert Cycle" time - how often to get re-alert notification if the breach persists.
Highlight the accounts to be notified and fill in any additional emails to notify.

Go to Console (Tab) -> Management -> Thresholds.  Wait for the next poller run (happens every 5 mins).
Once the Current value exceeds the High value, alert email will be send out, also the row color for the threshold will change from green to red to indicate "Alarm condition".
