Create Order Page
Use the Create Order page to add an order for a single-stopshipment. The order inherits the origin and destination of the shipment.Use the Edit Order page to quickly update an order on a single-stopshipment.
Fields on the Create Order Page
When youcreate an order for a single-stop shipment define the following fields:
- Order Number
Enter the order number. Each order number must be unique forall active shipments for your organization. For example you cannothave two shipments that each refer to the same order number.
Notes:- Sterling TMS canautomatically generate order numbers. If your administrator has setup this feature you have the option of leaving the OrderNumber blank.
- You can enter a combination of numbers and letters. You can alsoenter lower-case letters in the order number. Sterling TMS converts theletters to upper-case when you save the order.
- Weight Volume and Quantity
You have the following options for entering the order dimensions:
- You can enter the total weight size and quantity of the itemsin this order.
- You can add the dimensions later for each item in this order.You can also add item descriptions. Select the order on the Itinerarypage and click Add/View Items. Note: When yousave the order the weight volume and quantity are not displayedon the New Shipment page. When you save the new shipment the ordervalues are applied to the shipment and displayed on the Shipments tab.You can also view the weight volume and quantity on the Edit Shipmentpage.
- Customer
Select the customer organization that is receiving this order.
Afteryou select a customer you can click the Customer linkto view details about this organization.
- Supplier
Select the organization that is delivering freight to yourorganization or to your customer.
After you select a supplieryou can click the Supplier link to view detailsabout this organization.
- Priority
Select an optional priority for the order. Your shipper administratordefined the priorities that are available to your organization.
- Contract Attribute
Select an optional contract attribute to match this shipmentto a contract your organization defined with a carrier.
- Accessorial Attribute
Click Add
to open the Add Accessorial Attributes page where you canassign an accessorial attribute to this order.
Accessorialattributes are defined by your shipper administrator. You can assignone or more attributes if you want to apply special accessorial chargesto this order.
- Reference Fields
To add reference fields follow these steps:
- Select an entry from the Label list. Thislist contains standard reference fields for the transportation industry.
- Enter the Value for this reference field.
- Move the cursor to a different field on the page to record thereference field.
- Repeat steps 12 and 3 to enter additional reference fields.
- Click Add
toadd another row.
Adding Notes on the Create Order Page
Youcan enter a note on the Create Order page. When you add a note selectone of the following options:
- Origin
Thenote only applies to the origin. Sterling TMS also sendsthe note to the carrier with an EDI 204 transaction.
For exampleyou could add a note that shows the phone number to call for a pickupappointment.
- Destination
The note only applies to the destination. Sterling TMS also sendsthe note to the carrier with an EDI 204 transaction.
For exampleyou could add a note that shows the phone number to call for a deliveryappointment.
- Neither
Select Neither if you want to add ageneral note that does not apply to just the origin or destination.
Forexample you could add a note to explain that the order requires specialhandling.
When you select Neither Sterling TMS does not sendthe note to the carrier with an EDI 204 transaction. If you want thecarrier to receive the note with the order you have to select Origin or Destination.
