CP-CP session fails with sense code 80140002

Troubleshooting

Problem

Unable to establish a CP-CP session. Using APPN, a CP-CP session BIND failure occurs between a 3174 and VTAM.

Cause

The 3174 reports that VTAM is failing the CP-CP session with sense code 80140002 (COS name received is not valid). This in turn causes a sense code of 08400007 (Resource not found: A DELETE or FIND could not be satisfied because the specified entry does not exist in the receiving directory.) to the BIND from COMMGR to the host application.

The 3174 was requesting CPSVCMG as the COS that the session is trying to use but VTAM is not finding it. While the mode table entry for CPSVCMG has APPNCOS=CPSVCMG, the COSAPPN member was never copied into VTAMLST.

Resolving The Problem

There are two sets of IBM-supplied APPN Class of Service definitions: COSAPPN and ISTACST2. Both tables contain a CPSVCMG entry which is the COS required for CP-CP sessions. Copy either COSAPPN or ISTACST2 into SYS1.VTAMLST and activate the new COS table.
