Cox Regression algorithm

Troubleshooting

Problem

I am using IBM SPSS Statistics and I want to analyze Cox proportional hazards model for my research work. I want to know the algorithms for the following functions/calculations in the SPSS Cox regression. (1)Hazard ratio (2)95% Confidence Interval (CI) of Hazard ratio Where can I find information on the Cox regression algorithms?

Resolving The Problem

Algorithms for your current version of SPSS Statistics can be found under Help->Algorithms from any Statistics window.

Once the Algorithms document opens, scroll down to the "COXREG Algorithms" link. Please read through this information to find information on the calculation of the hazard Ratio.
Hazard Ratio:
The ratio is H(t) / H0(t), and spss will estimate H0 and knowing H0 is usually enough. Actually SPSS displays the -2Log Likelihood, and from that you can easily infer the hazard ratio.(if you know -2ln(H(t)/H0 ) you know H(t)/H0 ).

The CI is defined in the Options window - default is 95%, you just need to check the box.

As for the CI level of 95% which is the default setting in SPSS. this is based on the principles of Normal Distribution.
