Problem
The following error appears when starting the IBM® Rational® RequisitePro® RequisiteWeb, Rational Web Platform ReqWeb servlet engine service.
Cause
The full error message is:
Services
Could not start the Rational Web Platform, ReqWeb servlet engine service
on Local Computer.
Error 0xfffffffe: 0xfffffffe
In the Windows event log, the following error appears:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Rational Web Platform - jk_nt_service ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Rational Web Platform - jk_nt_service error: 997, Failed to start service Rational_Web_Platform_Tomcat: port conflict detected. Check the AJP13 port in server.xml.
A possible cause of this error is that another application is using the same port as the Rational Web Platform which is the AJP13 port.
Resolving The Problem
To work around this port conflict:
- Edit the server.xml file which is located in by default in the following directory:
<install drive>:\Program Files\Rational\Common\rwp\conf - Locate the AJP13 port setting in the server.xml which is by default set to 8009 and set it to a new port number. Update the port number for the following property:
org.apache.ajp.tomcat4.Ajp13Connector - Locate the workers.properties file, which is also located in the same directory, and update the worker.ajp13.port property to your new port number
- Restart the Rational Web Platform services for your changes to take effect
