Converting from IPAT

This document contains the procedures for converting from a traditional IPAT network to an IPAT with aliasing network, and for converting from IPAT with aliasing to a traditional network. This information applies to HACMP Enhanced Scalability 4.5 and higher and AIX 5.1 and higher.

Converting from a Traditional IPAT Network to an IPAT with Aliasing Network (IPAT=IP Address Takeover)

1. Stop the cluster on all nodes.

2. Configure the existing service labels and boot interfaces for the network so that they use different subnets. This will require changes to both the HACMP and AIX configurations.

3. On an HPS network, remove the old boot labels from the HA configuration and configure the base HPS adapter addresses as HACMP boot interfaces. For other network types, convert the existing standby interfaces into boot interfaces.

4. Verify that the network is configured to support gratuitous ARP by checking the NIM settings for the network type.

5. Ensure that the USE IP ALIASING FOR IPAT setting is not "disable". (smitty cm_config_nets_change_net.select or see options under Configure IP Based Networks SMIT screen)

6. Synchronize the cluster topology.

Converting from IPAT with Aliasing to a Traditional Network

1. Stop the cluster on all nodes.

2. If the network is using multiple boot interfaces on each node, convert all but one of them into standby interfaces, leaving just one boot interface per node on the network.

3. Reconfigure the service labels so that they are on the same subnet as the remaining boot interfaces.

4. Set the USE IP ALIASING FOR IPAT field to disable for the network.

5. Synchronize the cluster topology.
