"'Controller_ExcelLink' has fired an exception" when disabling the Controller add-in (inside Excel)

Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches Excel. User clicks "Options -> Add-Ins", then selects "Excel Add-ins" and clicks "Go". User disables (unticks) the box for "Cognos Controller Link for Microsoft Excel" and clicks OK. [NOTE: It will now be disabled. However, if you close excel and start it again it will be re-enabled]. User now clicks "Options -> Add-ins". User selects "COM Add-ins" and clicks "Go". User unticks/disables "Cognos Controller Link for Microsoft Excel" and clicks OK. An error appears.
