Content Repository cleanup utility.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Because of the versioning capability of Collaboration and Deployment Services (C&DS), the number of objects (versions) in the content repository will grow over time. Many objects might have multiple versions, while only the X number of most recent versions are truly used. From within Deployment Manager, objects and object versions can be manually deleted. - Manual deletes, especially when folders with many objects are deleted, or when attempting to delete objects with a large number of versions, can be very time consuming and can result in time outs of the client. - the Deployment Manager client will not allow to do a mass delete of all objects of a certain type (such as output files) while leaving other objects intact - These deletes cannot be automated - Python scripts can be developed for more flexible deletes, but this requires specific Python scripting skills. To address these issues, a java utility has been developed that will enhance object deletion in the content repository: - make the object deletion more performant - allow automation of an object deletion task such that it can be scheduled via a C&DS job at regular times - allow inclusion or exclusion of certain object types - allow deletion of all but X most recent versions, including/excluding labeled versions
