Considerations before upgrading DB2 Server from DB2 V9.7 Fix Pack 9 or higher FixPack level

Problem

A version upgrade of DB2 Server from 9.7 Fix Pack 9 or higher to DB2 V10.1 GA, V10.1 FP1, V10.1 FP2, V10.1 FP3, V10.5 GA, V10.5 FP1, V10.5 FP2, V10.5 FP3 on Windows platforms leads to db2start failure with SQL1042C error.

Symptom

When the db2start command is invoked the following error is encountered:
DB2-0 : The service has returned a service-specific error code.

SQL1042C An unexpected system error occurred.
SQL1032N No start database manager command was issued. SQLSTART=57019

The db2diag.log reports the following messages:
