Configuring map widget in DASH for GIS service like Google maps, Bing

Question & Answer

Question

How can I configure Google Maps in the map widget of the Dashboard Application Service Hub (DASH) ?

Answer

To configure Google Maps using the map widget in DASH, follow these steps:

Google Maps won't come as a dataset. The map widget uses data from normal datasets and layers it over various Map (GIS) services like Google, Bing, OSM etc.

Once you select an appropriate dataset (that has Lat/Long), you select the mapping service in Quick Edit -> Optional Settings

To show status there are two options:
1) Map the Status attribute to a column of type String:

In this case they can additionally provide columns for Tooltip and Status Image

2) Map the Status attribute to a column of type Status

In this case Tooltip and Status Image is derived from the Status Column.

For Google maps, you have to get an API key from Google*, as shown below:

* Use the following link to obtain the API key required:

So finally it would look like below:

A very important thing to keep in mind is that the dataset should provide Latitude/Longitude information for the items to be plotted correctly on the map. Else you will have to create a new dataset via TDI/Impact and merge this info into other data.
