Configuring logging for the Cognos Mobile for Good Technology app on iOS devices

Troubleshooting

Problem

How to configure logging for the IBM Cognos Mobile for Good Technology app using the Good Technology administration console and the iOS device.

Resolving The Problem

After you install and provision the IBM Cognos Mobile for Good Technology app (http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21662196), perform the following tasks:

Steps to enable Good logging for the Cognos Mobile app:

  • In GoodControl, the Good Technology administration console, under User Accounts, click Manage Users.
  • Select the user for whom you want to enable logging, and click the Edit button.
  • In the Manage Account page, locate the latest version of the Cognos Mobile app for the device and enable logging for it.
  • Enable the network level logging for the Cognos Mobile app on the iOS device ( http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21614419).

Steps to upload the Good IPCU logs to the Good Network Operating Centre (NOC):
  • On the iOS device, minimize or move to the background the Cognos Mobile for Good app.
  • Go to Settings on the device and select IBM Cognos Mobile for Good on the left side.
  • Select Support Settings on the right.
A switch for Upload Good Logging is displayed.
  • Select the switch so that it turns green.
  • Return to the Cognos Mobile app or bring it to the foreground.
Bringing the Cognos Mobile app to the foreground will transmit the Good logs on the mobile device to the NOC and reset the settings switch back to off.
When logging is enabled for iOS applications, a directory named SupportArtifacts is created in the application documents directory. A file named mobile_ios.log is created in the SupportArtifacts directory. All logged events are written to this file. The maximum size of an active log file is 1 MB. When this size is reached, the active log file contents are moved to a file named mobile_ios.log.old. If a mobile_ios.log.old file exists, it is removed first. A new mobile_ios.log file is created and becomes the active log file. When logging is disabled, the SupportArtifacts directory and all its contents are removed from the application documents directory.
